Box of Words is a CD-ROM companion to a double CD of audio works called Body of Words.

The nineteen pieces on Body of Words  (poetry, fiction, essay and cross-genre)  were originally broadcast on ABC Radio National. Some of the pieces were adapted from stories and poems from my previous books, and some pieces were specially commissioned for radio.

My original idea was just to collect these short audio works onto a CD, which I thought might make a useful teaching resource. Then I decided to also make the texts available on a CD-ROM. So I added class notes on each piece (background material, discussion questions and writing exercises), and the project kept growing from there.

I added three (previously published) book's-worth of material; specially formatted versions for printing for off-screen reading or class hand-outs; photographic art; and audio interviews. Then cross-linked all the material and added alphabetical, topics and chronological lists.

My writing has always crossed back and forth between genres and styles, and even though it covers a wide range of topics, there are myriad connections and cross-links, and the html format meant that these links could be fully explored.

The abridged version (click on the link below to enter) is offered as a taste of what Box of Words contains, and as a model that others may wish to use to create their own resources.

(The Box of Words CD-ROM and Body or Words double CD are available via direct order from www.dogmedia.com.au or through library suppliers.)
